Did God tell you who your future wife was?

Postby ChristianBoy22 on December 20th, 2009, 6:14 am

Ok this has nothing to do with every single man's battle but I have something I want to share. OK when I was around 19 or 20 I was staring at a poster of a young woman around the same age as me. While I was staring the holy spirit whispered into my ear "That is your wife". He whispered those exact words. I replied to him, I said "huh? my wife". That was it. Ever since then I was never able to get that moment out of my head and now I believe I know who I am going to marry. I asked myself "I wonder if God told me this to give me hope and to stay out of intimate relationship's with other women". Well I did enter a relationship with a girl not long after and my feelings for her completely dissipated after a month of being with her. I had no more feelings what so ever. I knew I wasn't suppose to enter a relationship with her. Anyway I am 23 now and I just wanted to post this because I want to know if any of you guys have had God tell you who you will marry, or if you know anyone who experienced this. I have read some blogs. I know I'm not alone. Thanks.

My advice is to be very, very, very, very careful with "voices" that you hear. I'm not at all saying that the Holy Spirit does not work that way, but that's a very subjective conclusion to draw. It could have been your emotions, a weird dream, or in the worst case, a demon masquerading as the Holy Spirit.

Has anything else even come close to confirming this? I would encourage you seek Godly counsel, Scripture, and really examine the experience. I would be very skeptical, especially if you've never even met the girl or know who she is.

Hey, God Bless you, I think the same thing, bro.... You have to be careful.
But don't worry if she is your wife, Lord is going to confirm... Just wait and be a good and faithful servant and He will give a virtuous woman... We have to be patient.
I believe sincerely our God speaks because He is alive, but we have to know how to discern if it's His voice or if it's our voice or devil's voice, so just wait, God will give an answer and He will recompense you if you wait for His answer.
Blessings.

Yeah guys I was skeptical. I have prayed alot and asked God to reveal it to me if she wasn't or in some way show me that it's not true. But he has done nothing in that matter. Plus I was talking to my minister at church and I told him I knew who my wife was and he said her name with me not even telling him! How would he know that? Even a friend I had said something too knew who it was. It's really crazy guys and I understand where your coming from but I truly believe that she is! Knowing this helps me not to fornicate or even get into relationship with other women. Think the devil likes that? I don't think so. So I do believe I heard the holy spirit tell me in my ear, not a dream, who my wife was. Plus I get a special feeling when the holy spirit says something to me. It's like spiritual confirmation like his presence or something. That's not the first and only time I have heard the holy spirit. So I am sure. Thanks guys for your opinion and your concern.

Hello Antoine; I remember when I was a new christian- about 2 or 3 weeks in- I had a similar experience while at work. I had been reading about the Jews returning to Israel in the end timesthat were scattered around the world. A warm feeling came over me and a voice in my head said this; " go to Israel, there is a place for you there"! I thought WOW this is neat that the Lord would speak to me. So I shared it with my wife when I got off work and she asked, " what did the voice say about your wife and your daughter?" I told her that the voice said NOTHING about you guys. She took offense over that but I KNEW it was from the Lord so the next night I was sharing at our pastor-lead bible study about the voice. The pastor got me aside and gave me some excellent advice that I still remember after 30 years as a believer. He said there are 3 VOICES a believer may hear; God's voice, your own natural man's spirit voice, or Satan or his cohort's voice! It takes discernment to recognize God's voice and IF he speaks to you, He will always confirm it because He knows the VOICES that are out there as well. Remember Gideon and the fleece( Judges 6:36-40)? Think of Elijah and how he recognized God's voice ( 1 Kings 19:11-13) God does not condemn us for rightly questioning who is speaking to us. Go to God in prayer in Christ's name and ask Him to confirm. The answer may not come on a fleece or in the wind, etc, but He will confirm to you through prayer ( James 1:5-7). The answer may be YES or NO, or WAIT but He will answer. I hope this little sermon is of help to you, Antoine, because it was an understanding influence to my discernment of VOICES when I was new to the Lord. May God bless you because of your desire to understand.

Yeah danandbevsfarm , I have prayed about this countless times. God has not told me in anyway that that woman wasn't my wife. Plus I have heard the same voice in situations where I am beating myself up because of sin and it encourages me. The voice sounds the same and I believe it's the holy spirit. I don't believe satan would saying those kinds of things to me. Even if the voice telling me who my wife is was satan, God hasn't said anything about it. We all know God is not of confusion and I know he would not let me gone on believing that a certain woman is my wife when she is not. I have prayed on this ever since I was about 19 or 20 and it has not changed. You guys make some really good points and I thank you but I honestly believe in my heart that she is my wife. I believe God told me and showed me because when I was a in my teenage years I truly believed that I wasn't going to have that kind of life, so from him giving me hope and showing me the work and change he will do in my life just by showing me who she is gave me hope and boosted my faith in him. I am 23 now brothers and it has not change at all and God has not denied it. So who can blame me for truly believing ya know? :) Thanks guys keep me in your prayers.

Hello again Antoine; Repentant makes a very good point when he says;
I would be very skeptical, especially if you've never even met the girl or know who she is.
. I have friends, and even including my pastor that have had a similar experience and I know they are sound in doctrine and have a spirit-filled walk with the Lord. However in ALL cases that I know of, the guy met and had begun a relationship, even if it was brief because they had just met. None of them had determined a future based on a picture only. You see, Antoine, Apostle Paul says that our body is only a TENT and our personhood exists as the SOUL that lives in the tent. In order to have a meaningful relationship with anyone, we relate, whether saved or unsaved, with one another's soul, the tent is just a covering. You see, many of us guys that post on this site have already battled with satan over the tent that we THOUGHT we should have and we came away bruised and beaten.
The Lord will confirm IF this woman is your wife. DO NOT assume because there is NO CONFORMATION that it must be true!!! It is great that you are inquiring about it and didn't simply believe without checking it out. I'm so old, Antoine, I don't even remember 22 years old but the Lord has given me the Holy Spirit and a measure of wisdom through the years of ups and downs to help lead others into a unity of the faith. You are in my prayers and I know the Lord will send a BELIEVER wife to you if you are patient and wait for His will to be revealed.

Ok danandbevsfarm, I can understand when you say do not assume if there hasn't been any confirmation at all. I don't remember any confirmation so I guess I should stop assuming. It's just that I've been praying on this for so long, and I told God I believe she is my wife. I heard that she was my wife but I never heard that she wasn't. That's why even though your points are really great and I thank you for them, I still feel as though I am right (Not saying that you said I was wrong). Plus I do know who the girl is, I know her name and everything. It doesn't feel right when a girl wants to get to know me more. It doesn't feel right when I want to talk to another girl. When I do these things it feels as though I'm sinning and cheating early! Even if it's a Christ following woman. I would feel the same if she is not the woman who God told me was my wife. This may be a rare occasion and I just might be way in over my head but it's been almost 5 years since then and it just doesn't feel right when I think about being with someone other than the girl in the picture. I haven't met her yet, but because of my lifestyle and the things God has me doing I will be meeting her. If I am wrong and I'm being deceived then just pray for me. Pray that God tells me I am wrong and that I need to let it go, because until I hear God say "son R**** S***** is not your wife" I am going to still believe and I'm going to pursue her. I really thank you though because you make so much sense and I will take caution and I will pray heavily on this and if shes not my wife then that means I was deceived and it will be a lesson learned. But if she is this will be a testimony for everyone and people will know how God let a man know who his wife was years before he even met her or married her. Thank you again and just keep praying for me because if I'm being deceived I don't like it at all. Thanks. :)

Amen, Antoine; The Lord is concerned about the things that concern us and wants to be a part of our life and the center of it. My favorite passage of many in the bible is Habakkuk 3:17-19
17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,[a]
able to tread upon the heights.

Continue to always rejoice in the Lord and what He has done for you; sent His only son on YOUR behalf to an unspeakable death for which Christ endured for the JOY that was set before Him,YOUR FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM!! I'm reminded of a fellow from the Old Testament who had to wait for a promise to be fulfilled and at the last moment, choked and could wait no longer. He tried to HELP God out by conceiving a son from his handmaiden (Gen 15-17) Abram waited 15 years for God's promise to be fulfilled but it was fulfilled AFTER Abram tried to HELP God. Hebrews 11 defines what faith is in verse 1:
1 Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

So hang in there Antoine and if the Lord has promised something He is faithful to His word!!! Will be praying for you that the Lord WILL deliver what you have asked for in Christ's name.
