Addictions
Addictions are terrifying and leave you feeling small and weak. How do you deal with those giants? The same way the Jews took on the seven larger and stronger nations living in their promised land. God told them not to fear their size. “You may say to yourselves, ‘These nations are stronger than we are. How can we drive them out?’ But do not be afraid of them; remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.” (Deuteronomy 7:17-18) God promised He would personally drive out these enemies before them. But He gave the Jews two responsibilities, too. They were to step out and engage the enemy in battle (Deuteronomy 2:24) and, once the enemy had been delivered into their hands, they were to destroy the enemy totally and show them no mercy. (Deuteronomy 7:1-2) When it comes to addictions, you must do the same. Will you engage the enemy? Will you show these addictions no mercy and destroy every last trace of them in your life? If you make a treaty with any part of them, they will remain a snare to you and trigger the same old cascade of bondage in your life.
